Last Thursday, we tried our first Maker Space activity in the classroom. The children picked their own partners (3 per group) and set out with the goal of building the tallest tower using only marshmallows and toothpicks. They had 15 minutes to build and were encouraged to work cooperatively and to learn something. Each group presented their tower at the end and explained their work process (what their original plan was, how it changed while they worked, and what they would do differently next time.) It was a great activity and really engaged the students in thinking outside the box. All groups collectively decided that if they were to do this again, they would build a wider base made of squares first.
Here are some photos of the activity. |
