Today we had our first computer class. Each child used their own brand new touchscreen chromebook (they are very cool) to gain access to a learning to type program. We will have computer every other Friday. In between computer classes, it would very helpful to have your child practice using a computer at home. Please have your child practice typing www.ryeneck.org into your web browser. Then have click SCHOOLS at the top of the page and choose DANIEL WARREN ELEMENTARY. Then have your child practice scrolling down on the left hand side of the page to then click on LIBRARY. This should bring you to the Daniel Warren Library Homepage. Students should then click PATHFINDERS across the top of the page. Once that opens, click the first category GREAT RESOURCES FOR DANIEL WARREN STUDENTS K-2. Then have your child scroll all the way to the bottom and click on KEYBOARD AND TYPING PRACTICE and then practice typing through that link.
I know this seems like a lot of steps and it would be much easier for you just open the game up for your child but it is important for your child to practice all of these steps on their own. It took us an entire class period just to get to the game today! We hardly got to play so any follow up at home is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for filling out the little Highlights order forms
from the beginning of the year. We just got our first reward in the mail. STICKERS!!! All for FREE!!! Highlights magazine sent me another set of order forms to give out. So please, simply check NO and sign your name (no other information is needed) and return the yellow form to school tomorrow. Of course, if you would like to order the magazine, you are more than welcome to - just fill out the entire form. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE return the form with a signature so we can earn some more free things for the classroom. Today we began working on True Number Sentences (aka Balanced Equations). The children are beginning to understand the concept but might need help with their homework tonight due to the organization of the page. I did the first problem with them so hopefully that will guide them through the rest of the page.
A fun way to practice True Number Sentences is to use dominoes. Your child can work on this on their own or you can do it as a family (good for all ages). Take out the box of dominoes and see how many True Number Sentences you can make. Here is an example: The children did a great job bringing home and logging their nightly reading last week. We will continue this process this week but I will be adding two paper phonics books into their bags. These books match the phonics skill we are currently working on. Please have your child read it to you early on in the week. If they read it with nice fluency (smoothly without sounding out each word), then you do not have to make them read them each night. If your child struggled through the book, please practice it throughout the week. The paper phonics book can take the place of the leveled book (regular book) in their bag if you want. You know your child's frustration level best, so please use the materials how you see best for your child and however it works best in your daily home routines..
*Please do not write on the paper books. I will collect them on Fridays and try to reuse them each year to save paper.* |
